Partners for Belize – Mission Statement

Short Term Mission Week

Our goal for the week is to be a servants; to give up any sense of status or place, and cloth ourselves as much as we can, just as the author of the Christian Faith, Jesus, did on his last night, with a servant’s towel. Jesus got up from his place of comfort, and took off his outer garment to wash his disciple’s feet as a lowly servant.

The Gospel of John, Chapter 13:12-17. So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “ you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

Regardless of where we are in our individual faith walk we all seek to:

  • Serve each team member with a positive attitude and give each other the benefit of the doubt.
  • Serve the people of Belize with dignity and respect with the highest level of professionalism.
  • Honor the traditions and culture of the people of Belize and submit for this time to their ways.
  • Protect the medical privacy of Belize patients by not posting their faces to social media.
  • Resolve our conflict directly with each other before the day is over seeking to be the first to seek peace. If not possible to do so, bring it quickly to the attention of the leaders of the trip.
  • Treat the hotel and hired staff with the highest level of dignity and respect.
  • Remember that the things we say when no one is around can bless or hurt our hosts.
  • Realize that all we do and say represents the United States and Christians.
  • Be flexible, giving up our status and place and not taking ourselves too seriously.

I am asking God to help me to do this during this mission, through the power of His Spirit which works in those who ask.
