The next Partners for Belize Mission will start Feb 2nd, 2012 with 53 heading to Belize for 7 days, and returning Feb 9th. The team is going to build a house, perform ENT and Dental surgery, offer medical evaluations in remote villages and offer children’s ministry in the process. While in Belize, the mission team will stay at Tony’s hotel and beach resort in Corozal. Last year we found this family of eleven living in this hut when the surgery team dropped the family off in February 2011 after performing tonsilectomy on two of the boys. They have gifts in their hands from the team and had just thrown up in front of their house with post surgery nausea. We asked the local church if they were deserving of a new house when Klamath Falls First Presbyterian offered the funds. We learned the dad had been killed and that the local village had been trying to help this familly as best they could. In February of 2012, thanks to funding and labor from our team, they will move into a new home. Our team will be putting in doors and windows in a 500 square foot hurricane proof home.
The overnight group took about 24 hours before we were at the hotel. This meant being up for about 30-36 hours – a lot for this old girl. When we got to Belize it was muggy and overcast but it rained and is surprisingly cool today. Usually is hot and muggy. There is a black bird like a crow with a long tail. It makes a whole bunch of jungle sounds sort of a tropical mockingbird. I have much to tell you about the houses rich and poor, very creative. There are 54 of us, most have gone to the hospital to help screening of people for surgery (about 500). Some of us are at the hotel to count out baggies of pills for dispensing; however most of the pills and some of the surgical supplies were left in Cincinatti and we were hoping it will arrive today..Brian and Carolyn Stuart met us in Houston coming from Florida and are here with us in Belize. All the teens are here and working with a local pastor today
We are in a very nice hotel on the coast in Corozol (actually rather elegant)..
Our thoughts are with the DeVore’s and Stedje’s as well as the entire mission team. God Bless you all.
